Today we\u2019re covering how to write a really great shout out that will make your colleagues feel like a million bucks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kudoboard.com\/employee-recognition-and-shout-outs\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kudoboard.com\/blog-assets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Blog-EmployeeShoutOuts-Banner-1-1024x357.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2669\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a Shout Out?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>A SHOUT OUT is intended to identify and recognize individuals or groups for a noteworthy act or effort.<\/em><\/p>\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/hr.syr.edu\/posts\"><em>Syracuse University HR<\/em><\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A shout out is a way to express gratitude for someone when they deserve recognition. Shout outs can be for a particular objective or hard work, or can be given simply because we think they\u2019re great.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A shout out is different from a basic \u201cthank you\u201d in two main ways:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shout outs are public<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shout outs are informative about something that may not be visible to everyone<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you have a staff member who completed a long but largely invisible task that will benefit the company, you might personally thank them for their efforts OR you could give the employee a shout out so the rest of the company is aware of their accomplishment and can offer their gratitude as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might consider giving shout outs for the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A job well done<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solving a problem creatively<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Going above and beyond<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrating company values or mission<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Positive attitudes or influence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kudoboard.com\/uses\/cards\/work-anniversary-cards\">Work anniversaries<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal occasions to celebrate (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kudoboard.com\/uses\/cards\/birthday-cards\">birthdays<\/a>, weddings, babies, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why You Should Give Shout Outs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re wondering \u201cwhy, though? Why should we be giving shout outs at work? Aren\u2019t we doing enough already?\u201d you\u2019re not alone. Think of it as a virtual bulletin board where anyone can throw up an acknowledgment of someone\u2019s incredible effort (complete with a photo, GIF, video, or link). Once a month (or once a quarter), give the award to an employee demonstrating the company values. LinkedIn in particular can ensure that your employee feels appreciation beyond their manager and team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">K.I.S.S.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>K.I.S.S. stands for \u201cKeep It Simple Stupid,\u201d and it\u2019s great advice in this scenario. You don\u2019t need an elaborate reward or process. Just do it. Create a Slack channel where anyone can give a quick shout out when they see a colleague who deserves one. Send out an email once a month with a highlight from one team member who is doing exemplary work.
